Principal Civil Engineer – Sewerage and Pumping Stations

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a highly experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join our team in Abu Dhabi. This key role involves overseeing the design, build, and operation (DBO) of a major sewage pump station upgrade. You will guide the contractor through best practices in civil and hydraulic engineering design, ensuring that the project meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

As the Principal Civil Engineer, you will be the technical authority on all civil and hydraulic engineering matters, ensuring that the upgraded pumping station is resilient, efficient, and built to international standards. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact on a large-scale infrastructure project in the UAE.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the technical authority for all civil and hydraulic engineering aspects of the project.
Review and approve civil and hydraulic design submissions from the DBO contractor.
Ensure compliance with international standards and client specifications for sewerage systems and pumping stations.
Conduct regular site inspections and resolve construction challenges in real-time.
Lead technical coordination meetings and collaborate with the PMC Engineering team and other stakeholders.
Support in risk assessments, constructability reviews, and the development of design strategies.
Provide technical input into project progress reports, change requests, and variation claims.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
At least 15 years of experience in sewerage infrastructure projects, with a minimum of 5 years working on large pumping stations.
Strong experience in hydraulic design, flood resilience, and integration with electromechanical systems.
Experience working in a PMC or client-representative capacity is highly desirable.
Proficient in design and review tools such as AutoCAD and hydraulic design software.
Familiarity with relevant standards, including EN, BS, ACI, and local regulations.
Exceptional coordination, communication, and report writing skills.
