Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Planning

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the CDU and Sickle Cell Services to align with the hospital’s overall mission and goals.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate service efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Establish and execute long-term goals to enhance patient care, reduce operational costs, and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with hospital executives to align departmental strategies with broader institutional goals.

Operational Oversight

  • Manage the daily operations of the CDU and Sickle Cell Services, ensuring efficient patient flow and resource utilization.
  • Implement best practices and protocols to improve patient care and operational performance.
  • Ensure timely and effective triage, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the CDU and sickle cell care programs.
  • Oversee compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies.
  • Monitor patient volumes and staff workloads, adjusting resources as needed to meet demand.

Clinical Excellence and Quality Improvement

  • Develop and implement clinical protocols and guidelines to improve the quality of care for sickle cell patients and CDU admissions.
  • Introduce evidence-based practices to enhance patient outcomes and reduce complications.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of patient care and safety.
  • Analyze patient data and feedback to identify areas for improvement.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff.
  • Recruit, train, and retain high-performing clinical and non-clinical staff.

  • Address staff concerns, resolve conflicts, and foster a culture of respect and excellence.

Financial and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the CDU and Sickle Cell Services budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.

  • Identify funding opportunities and secure resources to enhance patient care and department operations.
  • Optimize staffing levels and equipment use to maximize efficiency without compromising care quality.

Patient Experience and Satisfaction

  • Implement patient-centered care models to enhance the patient experience.
  • Address patient complaints and feedback promptly and effectively.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction scores and implement strategies to improve them.
  • Work closely with patient advocacy groups and community organizations to address the unique needs of sickle cell patients.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Act as the primary liaison between the CDU, Sickle Cell Services, and other hospital departments.
  • Build strong relationships with external partners, including healthcare organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders.
  • Represent the hospital in regional and national forums related to emergency services and sickle cell care.
  • Collaborate with research teams to support clinical trials and innovative care models.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Advanced certification in emergency medicine or sickle cell management is a plus.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in emergency services management or a related field.
  • Proven track record of success in managing complex healthcare operations and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in developing and implementing clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strong background in financial management and resource optimization.
